Personality model
HEXACO Test: the 6 dimensions of your personality
The HEXACO model measures 6 fundamental personality dimensions, including Honesty-Humility — a dimension missing from the Big Five. Innerscape uses the full HEXACO-100 as the foundation of your personality profile.
What is the HEXACO model?
HEXACO is a personality model developed by Kibeom Lee and Michael Ashton (2004) based on large-scale lexical research across more than twelve languages. Where the Big Five identifies five dimensions, HEXACO adds a sixth: Honesty-Humility (the H-factor).
That addition is not a minor detail. Research shows that the H-factor predicts ethical behavior, integrity, and vulnerability to manipulation — factors the Big Five model does not capture. This makes HEXACO the most complete personality structure that science currently offers.
The 6 dimensions
H
Honesty-Humility
Sincerity, modesty, fairness in dealing with others. High scores indicate integrity and little need for status or manipulation.
E
Emotionality
Anxiety, sentimentality, dependence, vulnerability. Measures how strongly you react emotionally to stress and how readily you seek support from others.
X
Extraversion
Social boldness, liveliness, sociability, self-confidence. High scores point to energy drawn from social interaction and a positive self-image.
A
Agreeableness
Forgiveness, flexibility, patience, gentleness. High scores reflect a tendency to avoid conflict and give others the benefit of the doubt.
C
Conscientiousness
Organization, diligence, perseverance, prudence. High scores indicate discipline, planning ability, and attention to detail.
O
Openness to Experience
Creativity, curiosity, aesthetic appreciation. High scores suggest intellectual hunger and a love for art, ideas, and unconventional thinking.
HEXACO vs. Big Five
The Big Five (also known as the OCEAN model) identifies five dimensions: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. This model dominated personality psychology for decades, but it has a blind spot.
HEXACO adds Honesty-Humility as a sixth factor. Research demonstrates that the H-factor independently predicts behavior the Big Five misses: workplace ethics, susceptibility to corruption, narcissism, and other dark triad traits. Additionally, HEXACO redefines the Emotionality factor — it is not equivalent to Big Five Neuroticism but a broader construct that also encompasses sentimentality and attachment.
In short: HEXACO measures everything the Big Five measures, and more. That is why Innerscape uses HEXACO as its personality foundation.
